A challenging aspect of many creative personalities is the self-destructive tendency. A good artist needs to be critical. She needs a critical eye for her subject, her representations, her own process. Unfortunately, the response to self-critique or to failure, or to disappointment, all experiences which our Composer of Art for Music courageously exposes herself to in the constant quest for artistic growth, is frequently one of inflicting punishment on oneself. This punishment often takes the form of immoderate, self destructive behaviors – drinking, overeating, drugs, smoking, promiscuity.
But stay on the bright side as you struggle each day to respond in productive ways to the sharp critical eye you honed these many years. If not for this great capacity for critical thinking, you would not be creating the great work which you do create. If not for your courage to explore new worlds, new experiences, take risks in life and love, you would not have the rich library of life experience for your creative work.
