Creative Life: Productivity

18 Jul

Each day brings a blessing and a new challenge.  Each day provides an opportunity to move forward in some aspect of our creative work, with some relationship, with issues of mundane life.  This is no   rose-colored glasses happy talk.  This is an essential reality.  Acknowledging the positive potential in each of your days makes you alert to the opportunities of the day which will become available to you, and to maximize those opportunities.  The essence of daily productivity is recognizing that day’s “sweet spot” – that aspect of your work which you can most effectively address that day.

it is always instructive to think about all of the “overnight” sensations – individuals who seemingly emerged from complete anonymity onto the world stage of public recognition.  Theirs was no sudden, miraculous condition of unexpected achievement.  Theirs was years of incremental steps, decisions, actions, which built and culminated in the public acclaim.

And perhaps more instructive is to observe the daily lives of these individuals after what are sometimes quite brief moments of fame.  We see how each day they put their shoulder to the wheel in some way – to push ahead, to grow, to find the opportunity offered by the day and focus in on that opportunity like a laser beam.  For ultimately, our satisfaction is in our process.  And our process is enriched, supported by our capacity to fully recognize the essential blessing of life, of opportunity to make positive decisions, to discover opportunities to further ourselves and to carry someone else along a little bit in their journey.

On those days when we wake up particularly rough around the edges, green around the gils, it is particularly instructive to recall the essential blessing of the day – life.

spark on!
