Creative Cycle: Joy of Completion

20 Jul

There is an amazing moment in our creative cycle when we realize a project has come to fruition.  We have arrived.  It is a moment of intense joy.  Sometimes the arrival can be unexpected.  One day we have been wandering in the dark tunnel, not sure where the solution lies, or even if we have asked the right question.  Then all of a sudden we have stepped into the light.  The solution lies before us and we complete something to our satisfaction.  Sometimes the arrival is anticipated, but delayed.  We have found our solution, but we must grind away day in and day out at the hard work of bringing image out of stone slab.  But in these cases, also, and finally, we arrive at the moment when the work is done.

Part of the joy of this moment of completion is the confirmation we get in our ability to finish good work.  Each time we solve a problem and reach fruition in a work, we have another success from which to draw encouragement as we engage in the struggles of other projects where we continue to grope.

The other happy spinoff from this moment of project completion is the opportunity to share.  We have generously kept up with other folks’ work on the social media, commenting and encouraging.  Now we can reiterate that we also create, have work that can be shared.  We have an opportunity to show more of ourselves to others – to enrich our relationship with others through this sharing of self – this sharing of our creative work.

Even as we savor this joy of completion, we acknowledge that it is in fact the process, the groping, the problem solving every day that is where we are most engaged as artists, as our selves, and with our Partner, our Creator above.  The ultimate reward of these sweet moments when projects blossom fully, is the strength we are given to push on in our daily work.

Go from strength to strength in your artistic work.  Savor this sweet moment of completion, and look forward now to engaging again in new work, new growth, new discovery, new learning.

spark on!
