Creative Life: Unbridled Passion

17 Aug

There is a time to let go, to take giant steps, to speak without reserve, to stake a claim.

Day in and day out you patiently, deliberately, take the baby steps necessary to push creative projects a little further along.  Day in and day out you exert discipline, adhering to the rituals, the routines, fulfilling the obligations, gently nurturing self and others – all to build that precious daily space where you can be fully available to your art.

In this critical context of disciplined daily structure, and for most of us only in this context, we can afford to, we must occasionally take a day to toss caution to the wind in our creative endeavor.  What does this mean?  It means foregoing at least some of the rituals and routines which generally define and support productive work, it means taking big bites and giant steps instead of the usual, reasonable baby steps.  It means working harder and longer, finishing what needs to get finished, starting what needs to get started, learning what needs to get learned.

Our Composer of Music for Art is ready today for a jump from the plane.  She is blowing off her day job.  She is hopping in the car with Deuce, her gentle spaniel muse, and heading off to a nice, country destination.  She will run miles, and write volumes, and compose, and build her site, and move everything to the next level.  She is filled with joy, and anticipation, and confidence that the time is ripe for a special day of recklessness, of creative liberty and license.  She knows she will return refreshed, encouraged, with her work at a new level, and her willingness renewed, to re-engage in the necessary daily grinds.

You pay your dues every day.  You are a powerful spring wound tight, full of energy.  Release it!  Trust yourself to make a jump!  You will land on your feet – no broken bones.  Feel the power, the great productive capacity available to you in these periodic moments of departure from the structures, the routines.  And return to those routines and rituals refreshed, recharged – settled.  And reap the rewards of your courageous leap – successful projects reaching fruition, new work and learning well underway, lots of sharing work and earning recognition in the days and weeks and months to come.

spark on!
