Creative Cycle: Letting Go to Receive

14 Sep

There is always another finishing touch we might add to a work.  But at some point we say “It is finished” and let go.  When we have invested hard work, and time, and patience, and thought to a work, and finally release it from our charge, we have an opportunity to experience a profound Energy “return on investment.”

A while back, our Girl finished an audio project called “Galactic Encounter”.  You can have a listen at the following link: http://www.looperman.com/player.php?tid=115603.

She received a comment on the track from a member of the Looperman composers community.  This guy indicated that he liked the loop and wanted permission to expand upon it in a track of his own making.  Our Lady shot back that of course, yes, he was welcome, and to share with her what he came up with.  She never heard back from him.

Finding herself somewhat freed up, given the completion of her project, our Girl decided to spend some time on the Looperman composers site, listening to the work of authors and offering feedback.  Having in mind that some time in the future the expansion of her Galactic project would be in the metal genre, she thought she would do some listening this morning at the Looperman site to works in that style.   She proceeed to filter for “metal” tracks.  She got back 1101 results.  She listened to result number one.  She listened to result number two.  Then she listened to result number three.  Guess what she heard?  Yup – her Galactic loop!

Some of us might think, given the odds of searching the correct genre this morning, and then for our Girl’s loop to be in 3rd place out of 1101 search results, that there was more than chance going on here.  Perhaps this was Energy in the universe which she had harnessed during her creative work on Galactic.  When she finally let go of the project, that complimentary Creative Energy in the universe could express itself back to her.  In this case, it appears that Energy is manifest in this other composer’s application of her “Galactic” loop.  What a profoundly powerful form of feedback!

The creative process is a powerful linking with the Creative Force of the universe itself, which can be a way of understanding G-d.  When we are engaged in creative work, we are asserting our own creative will dynamically with the Will of the Creator.  This is a kind of creative wrestling match that really constitutes the essence of the artist’s existence.  When we allow a project to be concluded – we “release” our wrestling Partner from our headlock (read about Jacob wrestling with the angel on his way back from Haran.  In exchange for the release, Jacob demands a blessing.)  And that moment of release at the end of a project allows for some important Energy to flow back to the artist.  It can be as simple as renewed drive to re-engage in other creative projects.  It can be more dramatic – like the 1 in 1101 discovery our Composer of Music for Art made this morning, when she discovered another composer’s arrangement of her work.

As important and necessary to the artist as external recognition, is this sense of connection, creatively, with Forces larger.  Project conclusions are special moments in time for the artist – moments to share out work and to receive that external recognition.  They are also special moments when all of the positive energy the artist has invested in the work provides an Energy “return”, sometimes manifest in some pretty remarkable ways.

Enjoy these returns on your creative investments!
