there is overwhelming pain today as a country mourns the destruction of innocence – the loss of precious children. Devastation crushes down like rocks. It is difficult to move at all. And in Newtown, families who brought so much life and light to the world, now sit frozen in darkness.
there is no discussion of rhyme and reason, of the nature of good and evil at this hour. there is only the present reality of rage, anger, loss. it is a blackness that fills our minds. it is a tightness that drives a deep furrow into our brow and clenches the gut.
The weak will look to the strong at this hour – not for answers to what cannot be answered, but for strength to somehow endure. And the strong will not pick themselves up off the floor first because they have an answer, a response to this evil that has won the day, but simply because the very choice to endure is at stake. For if strong hearts do not decide to endure at this hour, then evil has not only won the battle but the war.
For those of you who cannot move – do not move. Be still. Strong hearts have been summoned and form a circle around you at this time, to hold you, to carry you, to love you – to share with you silently, humbly, their own decision to endure.
And for those hearts who have been assigned the task of holding, carrying, loving – a Creator’s tears water the garden for you.
